Matt Dingo, musician
My limited release recording one, two, three, four . . . is an audio-biography which explores the various styles and formats that continue to influence my journey playing guitar. Awaiting the Storm, track 1, is a solo fingerstyle piece that I began composing while living in Minnesota where I spent many a long, dark and cold winter day honing my guitar skills and practicing classical repertoire. While I have played this composition in the past as a different arrangement, I have finally developed an arrangement with which I am satisfied-- nearly ten years after its first incarnation. Track 2 is my arrangement of John Coltrane’s Naima for guitar and bass. Long before I even aspired to play jazz, Coltrane was one of the early masters of the genera who contributed to my development as a listener. Stutter Strut, track 3, is an homage to classic rock arranged for trio. The last track, Mountain Samba, was composed as I joyously prepared to move back home to the mountains of Pennsylvania after many years of living as a transplant, both domestically and internationally. Keston George, from Trinidad, will join the trio for the last track on steel drums. Pennsylvania musicians Dom Peruso, drums, and Tom Jordan, bass, are featured on this recording. Friend and artist, Monica Malewska—whose work deals with the issues of food, consumer culture and commercialism-- will design the CD sleeve.
